Epaminondas Brown
Epaminondas Brown was born in Columbia County, 4/29/1841. He married Mary
Jane King, 7/3/1862, in Columbia County. She was born 3/6/1844. Children
were: Clementine; Ewell; Mary; Robert, married Ida Bennett; Lola; Ruth;
Jane, married Rev. Burr A. L. Bixler; Oregon “Orrie”; Gordon; Maximus
Marcellus, married Daisy Huey; and Nicodemus Epaminondas, married Julia
Hampton Smith. He died on 11/19/1905 and was buried in the city cemetery.
Mary Jane Brown died 3/19/1913 and was buried beside her husband.
Rev. Kinsey Chambers
Rev. Kinsey Chambers was born 4/7/1814 in GA. He married Martha O.___,
born 11/11/1829. They were here in 1855. Their children: Erwin W., Mary J.
S., William K., Handin M., George W. Hackney M., Elizabeth F., Marcella,
Levin M., Cassy R., Martha, and Laura. Rev. Chambers died 8/22/1889, and his
wife died 4/26/1888. Both were buried in the Chambers cemetery.
Charles H. B. Collins
Charles H. B. Collins was born 6/22/1793 in South Carolina. He married
Ann M. _______. She was born 12/25/1795 in South Carolina. By 1830, this
couple was living in Alachua County (now Columbia County), Florida. Children
(may be more): James, William C., Charles E. W., Henry, Mortimer, and Lavina.
Charles H. B. Collins died at Tustenuggee, 10/12/1867. Ann M. Collins died
6/18/1870 and was buried at Tustenuggee Methodist Church cemetery with her
husband.
George Combs
George Combs was born ca 1818 in GA, and he married Mary Lowery, born ca
1814 in GA. They were living in Columbia County by 1850. Children (may be
more): Martha, Jane, Mary, John R., James, William B., George J., Sarah and
Ellen. George Combs died 11/3/1894.
Joseph Dicks
Joseph Dicks was born 1/22/1819, at Wiltshire, England. He married Sarah
Taylor in Ocala, Florida, 1/18/1846. She was born 7/3/1822 in Georgia. This
couple moved to Columbia County in the 1850’s. They were instrumental in the
organization of Hopeful Baptist Church. According to census records, their
children were: William, John, Jesse, James, Stephen, George D., Sarah M.,
Henry, Joseph, Jr., and Thomas. Sarah Dicks died 10/29/1896, and Joseph
Dicks died 12/20/1899. Both were buried in the Hopeful Baptist Church
cemetery.
Jacob Douberley
Jacob Douberley was born 1783 in NC and married Rebecca ____. They moved
to this area about 1850. Children (may be more): Zachariah, William, Keziah
M., Jacob J., born Barnwell County, SC, Matilda, and Savannah. He died 1861
and was buried in Ebenezer cemetery.
Frederick Douglas
Frederick Douglas was born 8/2/1790 in GA. He married Bethany Anderson in
GA, 12/8/1811. She was born 1/4/1791. They had the following children: John,
Zilphia, Mary, Alexander, James, Tiercy, and Charles. James moved to
Columbia County in 1830. Alexander followed in 1840, and John came before
1850. The rest of the family had moved here before 1860. Frederick Douglas
died 10/22/1860, and his wife died 3/23/1859. Both were buried in Swift
Creek cemetery in Union County.
Giles Underhill Ellis
Giles Underhill Ellis was a son of Giles and Elizabeth Ellis. He was born
in Bulloch County, Georgia, on 3/22/1809. The family moved to Columbia
County (then Alachua County) on 12/24/1824. He established forts and
protected people during the Indian Wars. Giles U. Ellis married Mary
Branning on 4/22/1830. She was born 10/1/1815. Children were: Solomon H.;
George B., married (1) Mary A. Gibson, (2) Cornelia D. Hatch; Elizabeth S.,
married Robert Martin; Easter Florida, married Joel Kightley Niblack;
Catherwood; Texas, married John F. Niblack; California, married William H.
L. Townsend; Frances Utah, married John J. Bunch; and Mary Giles.
The first wife of Giles U. Ellis died in Alachua County on 9/12/1855. He
then married Nancy L. Jones Townsend, 3/27/1856. They had two children:
Martha Buchanan Ellis, and Thomas Bragg Ellis. Nancy Ellis died 3/12/1886,
and Giles U. Ellis died 3/20/1886. Both were buried in the Philippi Baptist
Church cemetery.
William Farnell
William Farnell was born 1798 in NC. He married Nancy B. Jelks in Pulaski
County, GA, 2/13/1823. She was born 1807 in GA. They moved here from Pulaski
County, GA in 1857. Their children: Mary Jane; William Benjamin; James P.,
married Emma Bradshaw; Sarah; Ann; Charles “Count Pulaski”, married Madora
Ogden; and Henrietta. William Farnell and wife died after 1870.
John Feagle
John Feagle was born ca 1800 in Newberry County, SC. He married Mary
Magdalene “Polly” Witt, who was born ca 1805 in Prosperity, SC. This family
moved to Columbia County about 1851. They were instrumental in establishing
the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Their children were: Elizabeth C., married
George W. Hancock; Adam; Andrew J.; Caroline; Drayton; Mary Ann; Rachel,
married Riley Rikard; Martha Katherine; Michael F.; and Permelia C. John
Feagle died 1870 and Mary Magdalene “Polly” Feagle died 1875. Both were
buried in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church cemetery.
William Feagle
William Feagle was born 5/16/1806 in Newberry County, SC. He was the
brother of John Feagle. This family came to Columbia County in January 1856.
William Feagle was married three times.
The first wife was Margaret Stewart, born 9/27/1809 and died 8/27/1842.
Their children were: Lawrence Clayburn, Jemima Jane, and William Joseph,
married Rosanna Witt. The second wife was Elizabeth Legrone, born 1/12/1823,
died 8/05/1870. Their children were: Mark Hawkins; Hezekiah, married
Caroline Louisa Catherine Witt; Margaret M., Sarah Catherine; Rebecca T.;
Shelton Byrd; Lenorah; Isabelle; Missouri; and Appleton.
The third wife was Margaret Theresa Kreps, born 1841 and died 1930. Their
children were: Edna A., married William Frank Ritter; and Lottie, born
7/28/1881.William Feagle died 1/23/1893 and was buried in Bethlehem Lutheran
Church cemetery.
James D. Godbold
James D. Godbold, born 9/12/1825, SC, married Susan C. ____, born
2/22/1827, SC. They moved to this county in 1851. Children were: James S.,
born 1844; Isaiah Connor, born 3/18/1849, in Marion Co., SC; Mary E., born
1852; Sarah J., born 1853; Stephen, born 1/7/1854; Charles P., born 1855;
Flora E., born 1857; William, born 9/4/1858; Etta, born 3/29/1861; Claudia,
born 1865; and Tennesee (female), born 1868. James D. Godbold died after
1880, and Susan C. Godbold died 11/29/1891. Both were buried in the Godbold-Williams
cemetery.
Anson Ruben Green
Anson Ruben Green was born in Charleston, SC, and his family moved to
Columbia County in 1844. He married Susana Williams in 1850. Anson R. Green
died 11/10/1885, and his wife died in 1871.
He was in the lumber and sawmill business. Their children (may be
others): Sarah Alice; Eliza E.; Urcellar H.; George; Andrew J.; A. Wilder;
Easter Ann ; C. Edwin.
Thomas Jefferson Green (e)
Thomas Jefferson Green was born 9/30/1830, SC. He married Evaline E.
Harvey, born 6/16/1837. They moved to this county ca 1857. Children (may be
others): Mary, born 1857; Julia, born 1860; Ellen, born 1864; Thomas, born
1866; John J., born 1868; Isabella A., born 1870; Henrietta, born 1872;
Matilda, born 1863; George W., born 1875; and Cora E., born 1878. T. J.
Green (e) died 10/17/1898, and his wife died 6/9/1905. Both were buried in
the Greene cemetery. His tombstone reads: “Farmer, Soldier, Legislator and
Minister.”
Levi Haltiwanger
Levi Haltiwanger was born 4/14/1818, in SC. He married Melvina Attaway.
She was born 12/17/1823 in SC. They moved to Columbia County in 1851 to
assist in establishing the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Children were: John
Elmore, Ellen, Oliver, Idonia, David Pinkney, O. T., Sarah Ann, William
Tolyer, and Tabitha Catherine. Levi Haltiwanger died 11/3/1906. His wife
preceded him in death on 11/3/1861. Both were buried in the Bethlehem
Lutheran Church cemetery.
Shadrack Hancock
Shadrack Hancock was born 1799 in Montgomery County, GA, the son of James
and Jestern Hancock. He moved to Columbia County about 1840.
He was married (1) to Ann VanZant in Tattnall County, GA. Their children
were: Henry William E.,married Sarah Caroline Townsend; William H., married
Matilda Tison; George W. D., married Mary Jane Miley; Durham, married (1)
Elizabeth Feagle, (2) Edith Sellers; Mary Elizabeth, married David Bryant;
James M. J.
He married his second wife, Cynthia Alexander, in Tattnall County, GA,
11/9/1837. Their children were: Caroline E. married Joseph L. Bryant;
Louisa; Margaret, Daniel Levy, married Louisa Sheppard; and Missouri S.
Shadrack Hancock married Louisa Tison in 1851. Shadrack died ca 1858 and
Louisa died 12/8/1878. Both were buried in Mt. Tabor cemetery. His grave is
unmarked.
Henry Monroe Harrington
Henry M. Harrington was born 6/2/1819 in GA. He married Pelester
Raulerson in 1840, Columbia County. He was a prosperous farmer in the
county. Children were: William Jasper, married Amanda M. Clemons; Sarah Ann,
married Jones Curry; Mary A., married James Oliver Green; Missouri Ann,
married George W. Green; John J., married Emily Cason; Henry M., married
Martha A. Roberts; Susan “Sudie”, married John Logan McCall; Lilly Dell,
married Wm. Blackstone Mershon. Henry M. Harrington died 10/18/1889, and
Pelester R Harrington died 4/12/1907. Both were buried in the Corinth Church
cemetery.
Dr. James Hamilton Hill
Dr. James H. Hill was born 9/13/1819 in GA, and he married Martha
Elizabeth Thomas, 3/28/1844. She was born 5/1/1828, Camden County, GA. They
moved here ca 1855. Their children were: Thaddeus Alphonzo, married Margaret
Greene; Robert James, married Laura Bates; Jane Rogers, married ____
Hernandez; Joseph J., married Ellen Summers; Elizabeth; John Crawford;
Martha Julia, married Eugene Williamson; David Nathaniel, married Florence
Roberts; Charles Henry; Florence Gertrude, married Charles Kline. Dr. Hill
died 8/06/1865, and his wife died 6/08/1910. She is buried in Bethel
Methodist Church cemetery, and it is believed Dr. Hill is buried there,
also.
Washington Mackey Ives
Washington Mackey Ives was born in St. Johns County, FL on 9/29/1843, a
son of Washington Mills Ives and Eliza Boyd Ives. He moved with his family
to Columbia County in 1844. He married Arabella Elizabeth Parshley on
11/2/1870 in Suwannee County, FL. She was born in New Haven, CT, 2/18/1853.
Children were: Frank Howard, married Ella Wharton; Wilbur Boyd; Washington
Mackey, Jr., married (1) Mamie V. Davis, (2) Virgil R. Kent; Jennie
“Jessie”, married Joseph W. Layne; Norman Parshley, married Mary Elizabeth
Linehan; Ethel, married Winston G. Hearne; Harold, married Evelyn ____; and
Emma Louise, married (1) Benjamin F. Cone, (2) Carl C. Coffin. .
Judge Ives led a very useful and productive life and was highly esteemed by
the people in the county. A tribute to him in the June 6, 1902 issue of The
Florida Index stated, “Perhaps there is not a single man in the State who is
loved and honored by his people as Judge Ives is by the people of Columbia
County.”
He died on 2/16/1925. Businesses in the city were closed throughout his
entire funeral service. He was laid to rest in the City Cemetery. His wife
passed away on 12/2/1930 and was buried next to her husband.
James M. Keen
James M. Keen was born ca 1810 in Georgia and moved to Columbia County
before 1840. He married Assilla _____, who was born ca 1810 in Georgia.
Their children were: Nancy; Henry; James M.; David; Andrew; Rhoda; Miriam;
Mary; Joseph; James Owen, married Wealthy Thomas, 8/18/1905; Matthew;
Francis; Martha; and Britton. James and Assilla Keen died prior to 1860.
Wiley Keen
Wiley Keen was born in Georgia ca 1824 and married Elizabeth _____ ca
1841. They were living in Columbia County by 1850. Known children were:
Nancy; John; Thomas; Hansom M.; Bryant; and Charlotte. Elizabeth Keen died
prior to 1860 and Wiley Keen died before 1880.
William Henry Keen
William Henry Keen was born in North Carolina ca 1782. He married Lydia
Gillett, born ca 1798. They moved to Alachua (now Columbia County) in 1830.
This couple had the following children (may be others): Sherod S., married
Emily/Emma Branning; William R., married Eliza A. Keen; George Gillett,
married Arkina Lane; and Gerrod (Jerod/Jerrold) H., married Mary B. Hunt.
William Henry Keen and Lydia Gillett Keen died prior to 1860.
James L. King
Capt. James L. King was born 4/17/1815 in GA. He married Rebecca L.
“Sophia” Blount, born ca 1823 in SC. They were living here in 1843. Children
were: Mary J., Rufus, Virginia, Julia, Marion, Texas, Novella, James,
Walter, Colquit, George, and Bascom. Capt. James L. King died 8/9/1869 and
was buried in Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery. His wife died after 1880.
Absalom Koon (Coon)
Absalom Koon was born ca 1822 in Newberry County, SC, the son of Eve
Feagle and Martin Koon. He married Lavinia “Viney” Amanda Taylor before 1850
in SC. He moved with his family to Columbia County ca 1858. Children were:
Parmelia, born 1848; William John, born 2/21/1850; James H., born 1853;
George W., born 8/6/1854; Wiley H., born April 1856; Mary Alice, born 1858;
Martin Luther, born 7/14/1859; and Frances Melissa, born 11/15/1863. Absalom
Koon died 1/9/1865 in Richmond, VA. His widow died 3/7/1906 and was buried
in Mt. Tabor cemetery.
F. Hartwell Koon (Coon)
F. Hartwell Koon, born ca 1821, Newberry County, SC, died 1909. He
married Sarah ____, born 1819, died 1876. They moved here ca 1851. Both were
buried in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church cemetery. Children were: Sarah, born
1850; Elizabeth, born 1852; Luther, born 1856; Victoria, born 1857; and
Laura E., born 1858.
William W. Marcum/Markham
William W. Marcum/Markham was born 1806 in Camden County, Georgia, the
son of William and Mary Gorman Marcum.
William W. Marcum and his father moved to Florida about 1821, and, by 1830,
William W. Marcum had homesteaded a tract of land in the Alligator
settlement in the Price Creek area. He married Reithy Roberts on 3/15/1831.
She was born in Georgia, the daughter of Zachariah and Mary Roberts. To this
union were born the following children: Retha; William Arthur, married
Martha Douberly; James Andrew (Andrew J.), married Julia A._____; Winefred
Delila, married Jacob Jesse Douberly; Reuben Levi; Mary June; Ann Elizabeth,
married T. C. Tompkins; Henry Clark, married Mary Frances Douberly; Riley
Wilshire, married Martha Rebecca Roberts; Hezekiah Joseph, married (1)
Leannah Allen and (2) Georgia Ida Smith; Joshua Caleb, married Louisa Smith;
and Giles W.
William W. Markham died between 1860-70. His widow, Reithy Roberts Markham,
applied for bounty land, June 28, 1878. She died sometime after that date.
Silas Niblack
Silas Niblack, an African-American, was born ca 1849 in Columbia County.
He married Martha ____, born ca 1850 in FL. Their children were (may be
others): Alexander Niblack, born 1867; Willie Niblack, born 1869; Silas
Niblack, Jr., born 1880; Hattie, born 1884; Ruben, born 1888; Oleiler
(female), born 1890; and Lilia, born 1891. Silas Niblack died sometime
between 1920-30.
William Niblack
The progenitor of the Niblack family was William Niblack, a Revolutionary
War soldier, born in Rowan County, NC, ca 1763. He left NC and moved to
Camden County, Georgia, being among the first settlers there. He married
Devine Tyson, born ca 1782 in SC. After his death in 1829 in Camden County,
GA, the widow and children all moved to Columbia County, FL, settling in the
Bethel Methodist Church community. Their children were: James, married Eliza
Jones; Esther; Elizabeth, married Sylvester Bryant; William Tyson, married
Harriet Ann Sparkman; Joel Keightly, married Ann Sparkman; Mary; John,
married Julia Bryant; Susan, married _____ Barco; Samuel, married Candacy
Raulerson, daughter of Nicabud; Silas Leslie, married Attalia Scarborough.
It is unknown when the mother died; however, it is believed that she is
buried in the Bethel Methodist Church cemetery as she was a member of that
church.
Isaac E. Ogden
Isaac E. Ogden was born 1802 in NC. He married Sarah B.___, born 1814,
GA. They moved to this county 2/19/1857. Known children: George R., born
1846; William H., born 1848; Leonidas F., born 1850; Emma, born 1853; and
Virginia, born 1856. Isaac E. Ogden died prior to 1870 and Sarah Ogden died
after 1880.
Elias O’Steen
Elias O’Steen was in Alachua (now Columbia) County in 1830. He was born
1803 in NC. He married (1) Martha ____, born 1803, GA, and (2) Eveline L.
J., born 1832, GA. Known children by (1) wife: Paul C., born 1835; Isham,
born 1850. Child by (2) marriage, Louisa J. Elias O’Steen died after 1880.
Reubin O’Steen
Reubin O’Steen was born 1818 in GA, son of Reubin O’Steen, Sr. He married
Martha Ann ___, born 1824 in GA. They were in the county by 1840. Children;
John W., born 1839; Elias E., born 1842; William U., born 1843; Argent L.,
born 1847; Francis H. (female), born 1849; Julia, born 1854; Mary, born
1855; Graham, born 1857; Leroy, born 1861; Laura, born 1862; and Thomas,
born 1866. Reubin and Martha Ann O’Steen died after 1880.
William Joseph Owens
William Joseph Owens was born in Barnwell County, SC, 7/22/1832. He
married Harriet H. Green in Columbia County, 11/2/1853. Their children were:
Georgia Ann, married Henry T. Barwick; William T., married Elizabeth Cason;
Charles P.; Jane E., married John Williams; Benjamin G., married Rena Cason;
Mary A.; Sabra A. “Lora”; George J., married Lillie A. Roberts; John,
married Julia North; Thomas, married Julia Swails; Adeline; Jesse; Emerly
A., married Wm. H. Caldwell; and Henry I. Owens. William J. Owens died
4/144/1912, and his wife died 12/24/1918. Both were buried in the Bethlehem
Baptist Church cemetery.
James Travis Parnell
James Travis Parnell was born 10/14/1827 in Darlington County, SC. He
married (1) Elizabeth ____, born ca 1824 in SC. They moved to this county ca
1856. Their children were: M. C. (male), Selina, and Joshua.. After the
first wife died, J. T. Parnell married (2) Frances E. Parnell, 12/28/1866 in
Columbia County. Their children were: William R., Evilena, Anna, and Caleb.
James Travis Parnell died 5/2/1895 and was buried in the Huntsville
Methodist Church cemetery.
Pompey Parnell
Pompey Parnell was the progenitor of the African-American Parnell family
in Columbia County. He was born ca 1806 in South Carolina. He moved here ca
1856 with the James T. Parnell family from Darlington County, South
Carolina. Pompey Parnell was a farm laborer and owned $100.00 worth of real
estate and his personal property was valued at $150.00 in 1870. He married
Mossy/Molsy _____ in South Carolina ca 1846. She was born ca 1820 in South
Carolina. There is no record of death for Pompey of Mossy/Molsy
Parnell;however, she evidently died before 11/7/1883, when Pompey Parnell
married Mary Allen. Pompey Parnell died prior to 1/3/1896.
According to the 1870 census, their children were: Amos, married Bella___;
Glen, married Ellen ___; Branley/Braley/Bailey, married Florence Vinie
Davis; Reese, married Dinah Gaskins, 9/21/1878; Frank, married Lou ____;
Ann; Charity; and Miley.
Josiah Parrish
Josiah Parrish, son of Revolutionary War soldier, Henry Parrish, and Mary
Ann Monk Parrish, was born ca 1771 in Duplin County, NC. Josiah moved to
Camden County, GA, ca 1820. He and his family were in Columbia County in
1830. He married (1) unknown, (2) Mrs. Cassandra Cason, widow of Eli Cason,
and daughter of John and Ada Weeks O’Steen. The children by his first
marriage were: Allen, married Martha Hagan; Tyre; Martha, married John D.
O’Steen, 9/13/1813; Ransom; William H.; unknown daughter; Ezekial; Mary Ann,
married (1) John Alford O’Steen, (2) John J. Branch; Oden, married Nancy
Cason. Josiah Parrish lived on his farm in Columbia County until his death
on 11/29/1846.
Ann Pearce (Pierce)
Ann Cain Pearce was born 1775 in NC and was living in Columbia County by
1840. On the 1840 census, Ann was listed as having six boys and three girls.
Some of the sons were: Levy, born ca 1790; James C., born ca 1798, NC; John,
born ca 1800; William, born 1825, GA; and John David, born 1828, GA. Ann
Pierce was living with son, William, in the 1850 census.
John Raulerson
John Raulerson, Revolutionary soldier born 1751 in Richland County, SC,
and resident of the counties of Effingham and Glynn, GA, was the progenitor
of the large Raulerson connection in this county. His children (may be
others) were as follows: Jacob; William, married Elizabeth Moore; Noel,
married (1) unknown, (2) Eleanor Baggs West Brannen; Nimrod, married (1)
Sarah Dukes, (2) Nancy Roberson; and Fanny, never married but had several
children.
William, Noel, and Fanny Raulerson moved to this area in the 1820’s. A
sibling, Nimrod Raulerson, was living in Columbia County by 1850. Nicebod
Raulerson, born ca 1799, died ca 1875, a nephew and son of their brother,
Jacob, also moved to this area. He was married four times and had
twenty-three children.
Abraham Isaac Jacob Rivers
A. I. J. Rivers was born in Beaufort Co., SC, 6/29/1815. He was married
there on 4/12/1836 to Selah Samantha Manker, born 4/4/1817. He moved to the
Falling Creek area ca 1847 and died 12/28/1863. Selah died 8/16/1886. Both
were buried in the Rivers cemetery. Known children: Lewis W., born ca 1826;
Sarah Rebecca, born ca 1838; and David, born ca 1847.
Zachariah Roberts
Zachariah Roberts was born in North Carolina ca 1779. He married Mary
Weeks, born 10/4/1782 in South Carolina, the daughter of Ann Osteen and
Theophilus Weeks. This family moved to this area from Camden County,
Georgia, before 1830. He was the first postmaster of Alligator Settlement,
Columbia County, when it was formed from Alachua County in 1832. This couple
had the following children (may be others): Asa, married (1) Belinda
Burnett, Argent Cason; Mary, married Ezekiel Weeks; Alie; Arthur, married
(1) Rebecca Bryant, (2) Ann Mary Lavina Collins; and Reithy, married Wiliam
W. Markham. Zachariah Roberts died prior to 1850, and his wife, Mary Weeks
Roberts, died January 20, 1854.
Robert Sandlin (Sanderlin)
Robert Sandlin was born 4/3/1790, in Duplin County, NC. He married Zilpha
Olivia Johnson, 12/12/1822, in Camden County, GA. She was born in SC,
1/26/1807, and died in Columbia County, 1/26/1880. He was prominent in the
defense of families around Blount’s Ferry against the Indians in the 1830’s.
Their children were: Jesse Robert, married Harriet Turner; James Lucas,
married (1) Caroline E. Phelps, (2) Lucy Lee; Elizabeth, married James
Jackson Knowles; Wealthy, married Jessie R. Turner; Henry W., married Serena
Knowles; Wiley D.; Zilphia; William Yulee, married Frances Bryan. Robert
Sandlin died in 1864 at the age of 73 years, and his wife, Olivia, died in
1881.
Stirling Scarborough
Stirling Scarborough was born ca 1800 in GA. He married Susan Brooks,
born in NC, 10/5/1802. They came to this county in 1844. Their children
were: Harriet, married A. J. Wright; Louisa, married James W. Cathey;

Julia Frances, married George Mark Cline; Magnolia, married ____Davidson;
and Matthew M. Stirling Scarborough died 9/27/1859, and his wife died
9/14/1874. Both were buried in the Scarborough cemetery.
Henry Michael Summers
Henry Michael Summers was born 12/6/1831 in Newberry County, SC. He
married Martha Caroline Enloe in Newberry County in 1854. She was born
4/3/1836. They moved to this county in 1857. His brother, Draton Summers,
also moved with them.
Children (may be others): Sarah A., born 1854; Preston Burr, born 1856;
Sarah Ellen, born 1858; William W., born 1860; Joseph F., born 1866;
Josephine, born 1866; Chester, born 1868; Henry, born 1871; Lenard, born
1873; and Amos, born 1877. H. M. Summers died 4/14/1902, and his wife died
3/27/1917. They were buried in the Pleasant Grove Methodist cemetery. His
tombstone reads. “Asa M. Summers.”
James A. Taylor
James A. Taylor was born 2/23/1827 in Newberry County, SC. He married
Emily C. Nichols in Newberry County, SC, 7/29/1850. She was born in said
county, 4/26/1835. The couple moved to this county in 1856. Known children:
Susannah, born 1852; Henry D., born 1853; Sarah Jane, born 1856; Oscar, born
1857; Estelle, born 1859; Ida Isabella, born 1864; Artisia (female), born
1867; Ella L., born 1871; Minnie, born 1874; Otis, born 1876; and Olley Lee,
born 1877. James A. Taylor died 1/14/1903, and his wife died 9/1/1925. Both
were buried in the Pleasant Grove Methodist cemetery.
Robert Taylor
Robert Taylor was a sibling of “Viney” Koon and James A. Taylor. He was
born ca 1822 in Newberry County, SC. He married (1) Mary A.____, born ca
1826, SC. They moved to this county in 1856. Children: William, born 1843;
Sarah E., born 1844; Jane, born 1847; James Stanhope, born 1846; Alonzo M.,
born 1849; Noah, born 1852; Nancy, born 1853; Thomas Carter, born 2/10/1859;
Jackson H., born 1858; Mary M., born 1856; Rufus, born 1862, and Joseph,
born 1866. Mary A. Taylor died ca 1880. Robert Taylor died 11/1/1897. His
second wife, Permelia Nobles Taylor, died 10/12/1924, and was buried in the
Pleasant Grove Methodist cemetery, so it is very likely that he was buried
there in an unmarked grave.
Cannon/Cameron Tyre
Cannon Tyre was born in SC ca 1799 and married Mary _____, born in SC ca
1800. They moved here ca 1840. Their children (may be others): William H.,
Thursday, and Charney.
George Washington Sylvester Waldron
G. W. S. Waldron was born 1/13/1813, in Ware County, Georgia. He married
(1) Henrietta Raulerson, (2) Catherine Stewart, and (3) Mrs. Rebecca
Raulerson.
He moved to Columbia County in 1844.
Children of Henrietta Raulerson Waldron were: Mical M. and James Carroll.
Children of Catherine Stewart were: Elias, Keightly S., George W., Newton
Oliver, Franklin Pierce.
Children of Mrs. Rebecca Raulerson were: John C. C., Arizona, Minnesota,
Oregon, George W. S., and Lemuel Sebastian.
Henrietta Raulerson Waldron died in 1838. Catherine Stewart Waldron died
6/10/1874. Rebecca Lane Raulerson died 5/8/1911. George Washington Sylvester
Waldron died 5/24/1895 and is buried in the Corinth Church cemetery.
Adam Witt
Adam Witt was born ca 1804 in South Carolina, probably Newberry County.
He married Elizabeth Kinard, born ca 1812, in South Carolina. The couple
moved to this county in 1851. They were instrumental in organizing the
Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Their children were: Andrew J., James Solomon,
David Adam, Caroline L. C., Rosanna, George David, Thompson Calhoun, and
Langdon Langley. Adam Witt died 11/20/1871, and Elizabeth Kinard Witt died
12/1/1882. Both were buried in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church cemetery.
David Witt
David Witt was born ca 1807 in South Carolina, probably Newberry County.
He married Margaret Bushardt about 1834. She was born ca 1814. They moved to
Columbia County in 1851 and assisted in establishing the Bethlehem Lutheran
Church. Their children were: Adam C., Mary Elizabeth, Frances A., Jasper
Hamilton “John”, Jacob, Nancy Catharine, and Rebecca. David Witt died in
1873 and Margaret Bushardt Witt died in 1888.
